City Administrator Ryan Schla- baugh told the council that in ad- dition to leasing the main floor and lower level of the Perfor- mance facility for $2,250 monthly for 21 months, the motion includ- ed agreeing to lease/purchase the exercise equipment from Per- formance at a depreciated value of $20,532.07 using 50 percent Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) funds and 50 percent LOST (local option sales tax) funds. He said the equip- ment will have a trade in value of about $9,500 when the city gets ready to purchase new equipment when the new Rec Center opens. The city will be responsible for mance con ru ion all maintenance during the lease and all equipment will become the property of the city at the end of the lease. Schlabaugh said this will be for a period of 21 months or until the new facility recently approved by Kalona voters opens. Total cost of the lease will be $47,250, plus utilities will cost about $6,300 and signage will cost about $300. How- ever, the cost of snow removal and outside upkeep will be included at no extra charge. Schlabaugh said the city will have to provide a registration or admittance desk for the Y and would have to move the present cameras and keyless entry sys- tem from the current Community building to the Performance facil- ity. Performance will continue to have space for a physical thera- pist and would like to have space in the new facility to offer physi- cal therapy services. A 90-sec- ond warn- ing means the danger has appar- ently passed. The tornado siren warning is only employed when a tornado has been sighted or a tornado warning has been issued by the National Weather Service, says Kalona Fire Chief Steve Yotty. "We try to be discreet," said Yotty, adding the siren warning isn't used for severe thunderstorms or tornado watches. A tornado watch is issued when the possibility of tornado development occurs and a tornado warning is usually issued when a tornado has been spotted.
