Junior Jess Bender had eight kills and served 19-20 from behind the serving line and Junior Nata. lie Graber led servers with 27-28 from her spot in the back row and also put down seven kills. Demi Brezina, a senior who saw limited time last season, performed well in her starting spot, leading the team with 25 digs in the back row and serving a perfect 18-18 from behind the serving line. "Last year they came off the bench and saw some playing time but that was limited," noted Coach Miller. "This year they're stepping up into starters roles and I know as the season goes on they'll grow into those roles." As a team the IMS girls served well, going 100.108, missing Just eight serves in their opening night of action. The IMS team was led offensive- ly by senior hitter Riley Schmie- der who had 16 kills, 10 digs and served 12.13 from the serving line. Senior setter Hannah Miller per- formed well, getting in 37 assists, eight digs and served 15-16. Next up, the IMS girls are in action on Thursday evening, Sep- tember 4, at Louisa-Muscatine and will play at the Mt. Vernon Tournament on Saturday, Sep- tember 6. The IMS girls are at Highland and Wilton the follow- ing week and will host their first home VB action against Winfield- Mt. Union on September 13.
