ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

On Saturday, June 30, spectators were on the edge of their seats, waiting to see whether the blue team or the red team would win the match as each robot raced against time to stack the most blocks in the arena.

Sam Smith, lead marketer for Highland High School’s Finger Tightans, hosted the robotics competition as part of Trekfest. He announced what was happening in the battle arena and the winners after each round.

With the blistering heat outside, people were able to go inside Highland Elementary School to cool off from Trekfest activities, and watch the robotics competition.

This was the first robotics competition the Finger Tightans had organized, and it had a great turn out. Smith was excited that they were able to gather eight teams to compete and enjoy the day.

“There’s a sense of community,” Smith said. “People come from all over to do one thing.”

Smith went on to explain that even though every team was competing against one another, teams were still trying to help other teams out by giving them batteries or making sure their robots were working.
