ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The deadline to pre-register for the Dec. 11 Riverside special city election is Friday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m.

Worry-free postmarks for registration forms submitted by mail were Monday, Nov. 26. Alternatively, any person who is eligible to vote may register in person on election day by completing a voter registration application, making written oath, and providing proof of both identity and residence. However, registration on or before Nov. 30 is strongly encouraged to avoid delays at the polling place.

Residents of Riverside may register at the county auditor’s office at the courthouse in Washington or any driver’s license station.

Online registration is also now available through the electronic voter registration link on our website at co.washington.ia.us.

The county auditor’s office is open weekdays from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30.

Individuals who are currently registered to vote in Washington County, and who have moved within the county, may change their address at the polls on election day with proper identification but are encouraged to register the change prior to Nov. 30.

Absentee ballots for the election are now available at the Washington County auditor’s office.

Absentee voting may be done in person at the Washington County auditor’s office at the courthouse in Washington, with the deadline being 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Alternatively, a ballot can be mailed to a voter if they fill out and submit a request form.

The ballot request form may be obtained from the Washington County auditor’s office or the following websites: co.washington.ia.us or sos.iowa.gov.

If requesting a ballot by mail, the signed request may be delivered or mailed to the Washington County Auditor, Box 889, Washington, IA 52353, and must be received in the auditor’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30.

Anyone having questions regarding registration or absentee ballots should contact the Washington County auditor’s office at (319) 653-7717.
