Former University of Iowa football player and coach Chuck Long will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kalona on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Anyone interested in hearing Long’s presentation should contact a Rotary Club member to be invited as a guest to the luncheon.

Long has been synonymous with University of Iowa football for more than 30 years. Long was quarterback for coach Hayden Fry from 1981-1985. He was the first Big 10 player and second player in college history to throw for more than 10,000 yards, playing in five bowl games and holding nearly every Hawkeye passing record.

He finished second to Bo Jackson in the Heisman race in 1985.

After college, Long played eight years with the Detroit Lions and one with the Los Angeles Rams.

In 1995, Long joined the Iowa coaching staff, first as defensive backs coach and then quarterbacks and special teams. His 16-year coaching career included stints at the University of Oklahoma, San Diego State University and the University of Kansas.

He currently is the CEO and executive director of the Iowa Sports Foundation and is an analyst for the Big 10 Network.
