ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie freshman and sophomore boys basketball team nearly came back from a six-point deficit with two minutes remaining, but couldn’t find the last basket they needed.

With 1:45 remaining Mid-Prairie made the score 36-33 and would get two more chances at the game-tying basket.

With 20.6 remaining the Mid-Prairie defense forced a turnover with tough defense and a bad West Branch pass. They took a timeout after the turnover and set up their plays. West Branch had three fouls to give at that point and wanted to use them to keep Mid-Prairie from even taking a potential game-tying shot.

Mid-Prairie was trying to screen a shooter on the inbound pass from in front of the Mid-Prairie bench. On the third attempt, before the West Branch foul, the Bears got a steal and Mid-Prairie had to intentionally foul with 4.5 second remaining.

The Bears were called for travelling with 1.2 seconds left, giving Mid-Prairie one last chance to score. The final shot would have counted, but fell short to give West Branch a 36-33 win in the freshman-sophomore game.
