ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Lone Tree girls basketball team dropped their 10th consecutive game with a loss to the Falcons of Louisa-Muscatine on Friday night.

Louisa-Muscatine set the tone for the game with their full-court pressure defense, that resulted in numerous Lone Tree turnovers. The Falcons converted those turnovers into layups and free-throw opportunities to race to an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lone Tree’s first quarter scoring came via a mid-range jumper by Karli Burr followed by a 3-pointer from Ashley Musser.

Into the second quarter, the Lady Lions continued to struggle both defensively and offensively. Poor post coverage and fouling by Lone Tree led to many Falcon free throws and shots in the lane. Riley Warson went 4-8 from the free-throw line during this quarter, after returning from a minor ankle injury early in the quarter. The Lady Lions went into halftime 21 points behind their competitor, as the Falcons had a 37-16 lead.

With a half of basketball behind them, the Lady Lions entered the third quarter slowly. The only scoring in the quarter came four minutes in with a two-pointer by Holley Johnson. This was then followed by a single free throw from Sydney Alt and a two for Maddie Jacque. Lone Tree was able to score five points while Louisa-Muscatine hit nine, to end the quarter 46-21.

In the final quarter, the Lady Lions still couldn’t close the gap and fell farther behind the Falcons. Toward the end of the quarter Lone Tree fell into the bonus and went 5-8 from the line. This wasn’t enough, however, as the Lady Lions lost the game 60-30.
