ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Kalona – It does not seem possible that Henry Burkley is dead and that the news which shocked Kalona people Wednesday morning can be true. But such is the uncertainty of life. Only a few days ago we saw him and he appeared to be in his usual health. Indeed, we understand that he was only seriously ill for about a day. He had complained some for a few days and on Tuesday suffered an attack of acute indigestion from which he died. Henry was a man who was well liked, a jolly genial man, friendly with all. He was exceptionally successful as a farmer and business man.

Notice – The parties that have our pipe wrenches and well augers, please return them at once. Miller & Durst.Wellman – Henry Eckhardt delivered four hogs to Durian & O’Flaherty this morning which brought him $295.75. One of them weighted 700 lbs and brought him $110.75 after allow 70 lbs. dock.

Chas Wahl delivered the best bunch of spring pigs Tuesday morning that Durian & O’Flaherty have purchased in many a day. There were seventeen in the bunch and they averaged 230 lbs. per head which is an extraordinarily good weight. He figured that they made him, plenty of money, even if corn is high for he says that if he hadn’t had the hogs he would have sold his corn and in all probability would have let loose of it before it reached the one dollar mark.

We receive encouraging word every day from Mrs. Coffey, who is at Rochester, Minn. Her last letter stated that she expected to leave St. Mary’s hospital Wednesday or Thursday and go to the Kahler, a large hospital conducted especially for convalescents.

Lone Tree – There will be a big dance for young and old at Troop B Armory, Lone Tree. Good music by a Lone Tree and Iowa City orchestra.

After next Sunday, Oct. 21st the Lone Tree meat market will be closed all day on Sunday. Please take notice and get your Sunday meat on Saturday.

The fourth annual chiropractic reel will be shown at the Subway theatre, Lone Tree. This is in addition to the regular program.
