Iowa Mennonite didn’t win a match at last Saturday’s tournament at Williamsburg, but got a taste of some tougher competition.

Iowa Mennonite started off the way with a 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) loss to Williamsburg.

The next match featured a battle with Class 3A No. 2 Tipton. IMS lost 2-0 (25-15, 25-23), but came within two points of taking a set off one of the best teams in the state. Iowa Mennonite coach Shannon Miller said there was some controversy that ended the set on whether a ball was in or out.

“As one might expect, we were highly disappointed with the call, and the way the game ended. However, the team remained positive with the fact they competed and stayed with a team of Tipton’s stature,” Miller said.

Iowa Mennonite then took on Bellevue and lost 2-0 (25-21, 29-27) and once again played close against a River Valley Conference team.

“Unfortunately, in the Bellevue match, we were unable to find a way to win those final two points and force a third set,” Miller said.

Iowa Mennonite was 2-0 in conference matches on the week with a 3-0 sweep of Wapello and a 3-1 win at Pekin.

IMS is next in action Thursday at Highland in the SEISC tournament.
