ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Wellman city council members made their wish lists known when discussing bids on road fixes during the April 17 meeting of the Wellman City Council.

The council members discussed the various bids received from LL Pelling concerning improvements that could be made. Council members questioned some of the items, like certain parking lots included on the bids, while 5th Street and 13th Street were left off.

They requested an estimate on doing some work on 13th Street at the edge of town and then gave the public works department the ability to prioritize projects as they saw fit concerning the $20,000 the city had to spend on their infrastructure.

During the meeting, the city also approved setting a public hearing date for their May 1 meeting concerning changing the official designation of land within Daytonville that is owned by the American Legion from commercial to residential. A buyer is already lined up with a plan to build and the issue already passed the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The council also approved allowing an application for an Iowa Department of Natural Resources Derelict Building Grant Program for the Starbeck-Miller building that the city will be acquiring.

During the council report, council member Bob Goodrich requested the council be able to put items on the agenda in an attempt to shorten the council report section. The move would also allow action to be taken on the item if necessary.
