Iowa Mennonite found their offense early and often in a 9-1 win over Highland.

The cold, windy day didn’t hold back the Class 1A No. 5 Iowa Mennonite team from finding their wings and easy goals off crosses.

IMS junior Toby Chen was in on the first two goals, serving up passes for Jacob Boller and Louis Etienne for assists before finding the net himself for a goal 11 minutes into the contest.

That strategy was part of the Iowa Mennonite’s focus to get the ball to the wings, something Chen said they struggled with in their opener against Columbus.

“It feels really good and I just like how the team plays with our midfield talking more,” Chen said.

Chen tallied his third assist of the day 30 seconds into the second half and scored Iowa Mennonite’s eighth goal of the day.

Etienne had his second hat trick in as many games and tallied an assist. All three of his shots on goal found the back of the net. Jacob Boller scored two goals and had one assist.

Brian Maren had a slick goal in the first half, using a hesitation move to dribble around Highland keeper Cory Stewart and tap in the goal.

Iowa Mennonite goalkeeper also converted what will likely be his only shot at a goal this season. Freshman Titus Neuschwander subbed in at goalie and Bontrager joined the Iowa Mennonite midfield and scored a goal with just a few minutes remaining. It marks Bontrager’s first goal in two years.
