A 7-year-old boy was airlifted from the scene of an accident in Kalona Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m., April 11, Kalona First Responders were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Highway 22 and Sixth Street.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 7-year-old on a bicycle was traveling south, crossing Highway 22, when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Traverse, was identified as Lynette Wilson, 42, of New London.

The boy was transported by Washington County EMS from the accident scene to the nearby park.

Just after 5 p.m., he was loaded onto the Air Care helicopter and flown to Iowa City, where he received stitches and was later released.
