ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

It was one of the busiest weeks of the season for Highland as they played eight games in eight days including two doubleheaders. They came away with a 5-3 record during that stretch.

With the heavy load, Highland coach Seth Milledge used seven pitchers over the eight games to keep their pitch counts in check.

They started off June 11 with a split doubleheader against Iowa Mennonite. Losing game one 10-0 and winning game two 8-4.

The next day they hosted Lone Tree and lost a close 7-6 battle against their conference rival.

After that the Huskies had four straight victories. They won a non-conference game against Albia 10-3 on Wednesday. They traveled to Letts for a contest against Louisa-Muscatine and came away with a 5-2 win.

They battled the 100-plus degree heat index on Saturday in a doubleheader at non-conference foe Keokuk, winning 4-3 and 13-3 contests.

They capped off the stretch with a close 2-1 loss to Mediapolis at home on Monday. Highland took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Mediapolis was able to squeak out a run in the third and fifth frames.

Highland senior Robert Yoder was on a tear over the last week and was 9-15 from the plate with 11 RBIs, a home run and two stolen bases over a stretch of those games.

Highland used Brody Burton, Chase Schultz, Dan Burton, Cael Yeggy, Jordan Sosa, Brady Hahn and Grant Colbert from the mound last week and now have started seven different pitchers this season and five have more than 15 innings pitched.

The Huskie pitching staff has struck out 127 batters with Brody Burton leading the way with 46 strikeouts. In 17.1 innings of work, Yeggy has held opponents to the lowest average with opposing hitters combining for a .141 average against him. They have a team ERA of 2.22.
