After months of planning, discussing and negotiating, it’s finally done. On Monday, Jan 8, the Highland School Board voted unanimously to accept operational sharing. On Wednesday, Jan 10, the Lone Tree School Board voted four to one to accept the agreement.

Operational sharing will go into effect at the end of the current school year, details to be finalized in May, and for the school year 2018-19. The division of responsibility for the first year will be a 20/80 split. Lone Tree will provide Highland with a superintendent for the equivalent of 20 percent of full-time. Highland will pay Lone Tree 20 percent of the costs. Highland will provide the services of a transportation director, human resources, and maintenance, all at the equivalent of 20 percent of full-time. Lone Tree will pay Highland 20 percent of the cost of each of these positions. Current Highland superintendent, Mike Jorgensen, will be staying part-time, working one day a week.
