Mid-Prairie’s running excellence pushed the Golden Hawks near the top of the Des Moines Register’s All-Sports standings.

The contest compares all Iowa high schools across 11 boys and 10 girls sports.

Mid-Prairie placed third for the 2017-2018 school year in the small school category of schools with up to 349 students.

Schools are awarded 10 points for a state championship with points declining there based on final place.

Mid-Prairie earned 36 total points on the year with the girls earning state titles in cross country and track and the boys earning runner-up in cross country and track.

Iowa City Regina took first place among small schools with 46.5 points and Davenport Assumption was second with 40.5.

Iowa Mennonite earned 2.5 points for a state quarterfinal appearance in soccer and Highland earned one point in girls track. .

Dubuque Wahlert took the top spot in the medium school category and Waukee took the top spot for large schools.
