ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Lone Tree pulled a 57-55 upset of Iowa Mennonite and earn what coach Tom Squiers called a “signature win.”

Lone Tree held on to a one possession game for much of the fourth quarter, never giving up the lead despite Iowa Mennonite bringing it as close as one point.

Iowa Mennonite forced two turnovers in the final 90 seconds down just one possession, but missed the ensuing shots. With 10.1 seconds left, Bryce Houser made both free throws in a one-and-one to push the game to two possessions. Keegan Edwards notched one of six steals out of the Iowa Mennonite timeout and made one free throws. Iowa Mennonite’s Trevor Leyden hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final 57-55.

After trailing 15-11 after one quarter, Lone Tree took the lead with 15 seconds left in the half at 29-26 and didn’t give up the lead the rest of the game.

Lone Tree had three in double figures with Keegan Edwards leading the way with 14 points. Avery Knock and Austin Marshek each had 12. Tyler McCullough had six points and was 2-2 from 3-point range.

Iowa Mennonite was led by Kobe Borntrager with 17 points and Jeremy Niemeyer had 11.

Mid-Prairie sinks Durant

Mid-Prairie got back to .500 with a 65-53 win over Durant. The Golden Hawks were led by 26 points from Cale Robertson and 19 rebounds from Tom Butters in the win.

The Golden Hawks led 29-23 at halftime and pushed the lead to 12 by the end of the game.

Brad Tornow had eight assists on the night and Ethan Trimpe had five assists.

Dom Pickard added 12 points on 4-5 shooting and Grant Boyse had 10 points off the bench.

Mid-Prairie (6-6) hosts West Liberty (1-10) on Friday night and will be hosting a pack the gym night with free admission for K-12 students.

No score was available from the Highland at Louisa-Muscatine game.
