ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Following a statewide RAGBRAI planning meeting in Ames on April 7, the Wellman City Council is feeling confident about its planning.

The council discussed RAGBRAI plans during a special meeting on Monday evening.

“I honestly feel like we’re way ahead of the game,” Councilman Shannon McCain said.

City Administrator Kelly Litwiller said that the city still needed to set a budget and figure out the cost for vendors.

“The city shouldn’t be paying for anything except necessities,” Litwiller said.

Some of the necessities included are port-a-potties, hand-washing stations, water bottle filling stations, trash and signage.

Litwiller said that the city has already lined up – or is in the process of lining up – many of those necessities.

The council agreed to set a spending cap of $5,000 at the recommendation of Mayor Ryan Miller.

Jonas Zimmerman, owner of The Well, will set up the beer garden and cover that cost, along with the cost of a DJ.
