1931 - 2019

Ira C. Nissley, 87, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. Pastor David Heusinkveld and Pastor Martha Yoder officiated. Burial was in the West Union Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the West Union Mennonite Church.

Ira C. Nissley was born Sept. 29, 1931, in rural Thomas, Okla., the son of Chris and Sarah Ann (Yoder) Nissley. His family moved to Iowa when he was 12 years old living in the Kalona community. On Oct. 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Arlene Schlabach at the Parnell Mennonite Church. The couple has lived in the Williamsburg community since 1956.

Ira farmed, owned and operated Burg Auto and Nissley Welding. He will be remembered for his love of family and his pleasure in all things mechanical. The best challenge for him was a project that seemed too difficult to fix. He was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church.

Ira is survived by his wife of 66 years: Arlene of Williamsburg; four children: Darlene and Dale Chittick of Williamsburg, Keith and Gloria Nissley of Blounstown, Fla., Brenda Nissley of Seattle, Wash., and Amy and Ardell Nissley Stauffer of Hesston, Kan.; five grandchildren: Carrie (Greg) Dietz, Neal Chittick, Sarah Nissley, Max and Graham Stauffer; five great-grandchildren: Camden, Ashley, Daniel, Hannah and Jenna; and 11 siblings: Leroy Nissley of Riverside, Lonnie Nissley of Blountstown, Fla., Chris Nissley of Clarksville, Fla., Ivan Nissley of Blountstown, Fla., Mary Bell of Canyon Country, Calif., Ann Hochstedler of Kalona, Heidi Smucker of Spring Mills, Pa., Marie Detweiler of Tallahassee, Fla., Pauline Miller of Craig, Colo., Carolyn Yoder of Altha, Fla., and Treva Schrock of New Paris, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Nelson and John.
