ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie volleyball team lost just one set in four matches in the New London Tournament on Saturday, before dropping the championship game to the host Tigers.

“This was a super tournament for us,” Mid-Prairie Coach Cindy Miller said. “It felt like everything was finally back on track. It was great to have everyone back on the court and the line-up in full force."

Sophomore Jaedynn Evans returned to the court and didn’t miss a beat, finishing with 61 kills for the day. Evans is currently second in Class 2A with an average of five kills per set. There are 57 schools in the state that average less than five kills/set as a team.

The Golden Hawks hung with the Class 1A #13 New London Tigers in each set of the final game, but came up short 21-25, 22-25 to finish second.

“We made too many minor mistakes and mental errors,” Miller explained, “so we were never able to swing the momentum of the match our way.”

Evans led Mid-Prairie with 16 kills in the match, senior libero Amanda Miller had 16 digs, and sophomore setter Sami Miller had 17 assists. Junior Anna Vilovchik was 7-7 serving.

Mid-Prairie defeated Winfield Mt. Union in the semifinal to briefly hold a winning record for the first time since September 15.

The IGHSAU has announced Regional volleyball pairings and the Golden Hawks will travel to Williamsburg for a matchup with the 7-13 Raiders on Wednesday, October 19.
