On Tuesday, Aug. 28, voters in the Mid-Prairie school district will head to the polls to decide who will serve out an unexpired term on the school board.

School board member Emily Uhl faces former school board member Randy Billups in the election. The winner will serve on the board until the regular November 2019 school election.

Uhl was appointed to the board in July after the June resignation of George Schaefer. A petition calling for a special election was submitted following Uhl’s appointment.

Billups served on the school board from 2005-13, when he resigned after taking a job with the school district.

Mid-Prairie business manager Jeff Swartzentruber said that the election will be conducted by paper ballot, which will cost the district about $1,000.

On Tuesday, polls will be open from 12-8 p.m. Polling places will be:

• Kalona – Kalona Public Library.

• Wellman – Parkside Recreation Center.

• West Chester – The old school building.
