ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie boys golf team was the runner up at the 2A sectional played at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Wapello on Friday, May 12.

Freshman Noah Schlabaugh shot a 79 for the Golden Hawks, who advance to district play at Gates Park in Waterloo on Friday, May 19.

Central Lee finished first with a team score of 343. Mid-Prairie shot an 18-hole score of 343, finishing 11 strokes ahead of third-place Van Buren.

Schlabaugh finished just two strokes behind medalist Isaac Moeller of Central Lee. It was the second time seeing the course for Schlabaugh and the Golden Hawks.

“I thought the conditions were alright,” Schlabaugh said. “The greens were a bit fast. We came here for a practice round a couple weeks ago and none of us really played well, but I feel like coming here and getting to know the course a little helped us a lot.”

Schlabaugh had 11 pars and seven bogeys, following up a 41 on the front nine with a 38 to force a playoff for runner-up medalist with Logan Faler of Davis County.

Faler won the playoff by a stroke, with a par on the 18th hole.

Duncan McCain shot a 40 and a 42 to tie for fifth individually with an 82.

Collin Gingerich finished each round with a 44. His score of 88 was his lowest 18-hole score of the season.

Ryan Slaubaugh and Michael Callahan each shot 94. Ryan Smit finished with 102 strokes.
