Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce President Justin Schrock has resigned after taking a new job outside of Kalona.

His resignation was announced in an email to Chamber board members on Monday.

Vice President Alvin Kramer said he learned of the resignation on Sunday, and the board of directors will discuss how to proceed.

The board usually meets on the third Wednesday of the month. Kramer said he will be interim president until the next meeting on Feb. 21.

Schrock is going to work for The Water Shop. He grew up in Kalona and graduated from Pathway Christian School in 2005.

He had worked for Century Insurance in Kalona. Prior to that he had worked at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City and managed the valet department at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort.

In addition to his work as president, Schrock has been an organizer of the Kalona Days celebration.

“We wish Justin the best,” Kramer said.

The Kalona Chamber is a nonprofit business organization, supported by membership of community merchants and businesses. The Chamber was organized to advance the economic, industrial, professional, ethnic, cultural and civic welfare of Kalona and the surrounding area. It offers information for tourists and visitors to Kalona.
