Once again I’m writing about some of the fine people in our town and country who step up and get things done.

The beautiful American flag, a symbol of this great country, were waving in the winds over Sharon Hill Cemetery. To me, these flags were flying in those winds over the graves of some of our fine men and women honoring them, who served their country.

We have a lot of freedoms in this great land of the free and brave, because of these brave ones who served, but too often we take these things for granted. We set back and allow the greedy to manipulate us for their financial or political gains.

Thanks to Superintendent Mark Schneider for allowing Mid-Prairie youth to help set up and take down the flags. What a fine group of young people ready to work! A special thanks to the teacher, Mrs. Schmitt, who brought tools to get the job done and spearheaded the task.

Thanks also to Mr. Kauffman and Mrs. Beckman. Then there was the city crew who got the cemetery ready. It’s nice to have that crew helping which hasn’t always happened in the past. I had a problem with a pipe, gave a holler and they were there. Yes, this flag display does bring good attention to the city of Kalona. Thanks again to the city crew of Kalona.

A special thank you to the names Beckman and Peterseim who originally got this display going. Also a big thanks to the cookie gal.

A crew is needed to clean and ream out a few pipes in the ground and find a way to extend a couple that have been buried too deep. This needs to be done this summer.

Thank you to all that have helped get this display up and flying in the wind.
