There were some kind words for Riverside City Clerk Lory Young Monday night after she announced her resignation.

Young is moving to Gaylord, Minn., to become the city administrator of the town of 2,233 residents about 70 miles southwest of Minneapolis.

Council member Jeanine Redlinger said Young is essential to the operation of City Hall at a time that the city has numerous projects in various stages of development.

“I would like us to do what we can to keep her in this job,” Redlinger said.

Young thanked Redlinger for the kind words but said she has already accepted the position and is scheduled to start work on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

“I’m moving this weekend and starting on Tuesday,” Young said Tuesday morning.

Young said that there was a point in the last week of December before she accepted the position that she was willing to talk about staying, but Mayor Allen Schneider told her council members were not interested in meeting to discuss it.

Not all of the words were complimentary. Council member Tom Sexton said that Young should not have accepted a $1,500 payment to a personal health savings account that was made at the end of December.

After discussion, the council decided that the payment was approved, and Young should not be made to pay it back.
