The Highland-Lone Tree sharing agreement has been approved by Highland at least.

The Highland School Board voted unanimously at their meeting on Monday, Jan. 8, to enter into an operational sharing agreement with the Lone Tree School District.

Lone Tree will vote on whether or not to enter into the agreement when their board meets on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Nate Robinson, president of the Highland School Board, said it was a good thing the agreement was approved.

“It’ll be nice to have some of the year to worry about the details of the agreement,” he said.

Sue Rich, Highland’s business manager, said the deal wouldn’t be finalized until May.

Highland Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen, said once Lone Tree voted to enter into the sharing agreement, he would start talking with Lone Tree Superintendent Ken Crawford more about specific details.

“With him only being at Highland for 20 percent of the time, or one day a week, we need to take a look at the job description and figure out where gaps are,” he said. “We need to decide how we’re going to cover those other areas.”

Jorgensen said he was considering staying on and helping in the district for one day a week during the beginning of the agreement. The agreement, will bring financial benefits to the district, he said.

“It’s a good thing, I think it’s positive for both districts,” he said.”With Lone Tree’s proximity, we’re natural partners.”
