Lone Tree opened district play with a 48-14 win over Springville.

Coach Aaron Bohr said it was just one step towards their goal of making the 8-player playoffs out of one of the toughest districts in the state.

“I was especially pleased with the effort and intensity with which our guys played, and I feel this is the kind of victory that we can definitely build off of in the games to come,” Bohr said.

Lone Tree opened up the game with strong defense and didn’t allow Springville any first quarter points and just one touchdown in the second quarter.

After halftime is when they turned on the afterburners and Bryce Houser rushed in for a touchdown and Harmon Miller threw a touchdown to Brock Smith within the opening two minutes of the second half.

Houser had quite the night for the Lions and contributed five touchdowns by rushing four in and catching one pass for a touchdown. He finished with 122 yards on 13 carries and had just one catch for 14 yards.

“Our offense has been doing a terrific job of opening up holes, and Bryce has done a great job of finding running lanes and running with conviction,” Bohr said.

Houser now has nine rushing touchdowns on the season and 433 total rushing yards behind his experienced offensive line. Bohr praised his offensive line for their work and said they’re a big reason for the 4-0 start.

“The physicality of our offensive and defensive fronts has been key to our fast start to the season,” Bohr said.

The defense has been stout all season, allowing just 14 points per game while the offense has put up 45 points per game.

Bohr said their was a standout defensive player for the Lions on Friday night and that was Wes Hotz, who plays middle linebacker.

“Wes played his best game as a Lone Tree Lion and did an amazing job neutralizing Springville’s best player with his physical play,” Bohr said. “It was a treat to watch a player that has worked as hard as Wes to put on such a clinic in front of the home crowd.”

Hotz had 8.5 total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss.

Lone Tree will travel to English Valleys for their next game.
