ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Riverside City Council Monday night approved a $12,000 budget for bands and entertainment when RAGBRAI comes to town in July.

Council members voiced excitement about showing off their town for up to 25,000 people who will be participating in the ride on Friday, July 27.

The motion by Councilman Rob Weber passed 4-1 with Jeanine Redlinger expressing hesitation with the spending level.

“I am just going to oppose for the people who think this is too much,” Redlinger said.

RAGBRAI – the Register’s Great Bike Ride Across Iowa – will be passing through Wellman, Kalona and Riverside on Friday, July 27, between overnight stops at Sigourney and Iowa City.

Kevin Meller, who is heading the committee organizing activities for the day asked the council for two things Monday night: a commitment on spending for entertainment and an ordinance requiring all vendors in the city to pay a $300 fee to set up shop that day.
