ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Wellman

The Wellman City Council kept things brief Dec. 18 as they gathered for their last meeting of the year with just two items to handle under new business.

After the Washington County Sheriff’s Department gave their monthly update, the council members took up a unique situation. Before them was a request for one employee to donate accumulated sick time to another employee who had been dealing with the illness of their father, who recently passed away.

After acknowledging that they were extremely special circumstances and not precedent-setting, the council unanimously approved the generous gesture.

The council members also approved new compressors for the heating and cooling system at the Parkside Activities Center. After being given the runaround by their previous supplier, the city obtained bids from a new company, which came in at a drastically lower price point, totaling $5,248 for both compressors.

The council meeting was the last meeting for council member Fern Bontrager after eight years on the council. Mayor Ryan Miller thanked Bontrager for her years of service to the community and for being a strong voice on the council.

With the holidays upcoming, government offices will have slightly adjusted hours. City Hall will be closed for the holidays Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1 and 2.
