The Iowa Mennonite girls track team got their first meet of the season in on the lone night suitable for track.
After a meet at Williamsburg was cancelled on Tuesday, area coaches scrambled to get a make-up meet scheduled for Thursday according to Iowa Mennonite coach Martin Gingerich.
“Unpleasant weather made Tuesday not a good day for a track meet,” Gingerich said. “The persistent coaches from Williamsburg and Solon planned this meet in the spur of the moment to replace the original meet.”
Despite the unplanned nature, many of the Iowa Mennonite participants ran either season or personal bests.
In the 3000 meter run, Ainsley Shaw ran a personal best 15:53.18 to place 12th. Ava Hughes ran a 1:41.69 in the 400 meter dash to place 14th and grab a personal best.
Suzanna Yoder placed third in three events, the 100 and 400 meter dashes and the long jump. She took second place and scored a season best in the 200 at 27.90.
Emma Beachy led the way in the discus for Iowa Mennonite, throwing 88-feet to place eighth. Sarann Durflinger and Elizabeth Slater made their discus debut according to Gingerich. Durflinger threw 53-feet 8-inches and Slater threw 40-feet 3-inches.
Sarena Gerber took eighth in the 400 meter dash at 1:12.92 and ran a 6:30.02 in the 1500 meter run for a season best.
