September 6, 2018 Galileo Drive plat approved by Riverside city council

Houses soon may start rising along the new Galileo Drive in north Riverside.

The city Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plat for the street, which shows the location and dimensions of each of the lots.

The street runs parallel to Cherry Lane between Kleopfer Avenue and Ash Street. It currently is under construction and as of Aug. 30, the concrete had not been poured for it.

The approved plat has six home lots on the south side of the street. On the north side is space for a proposed city community center. One lot is set aside to handle storm water drainage from the street.

According to City Clerk Becky La Roche, the City Council will meet in a work session Sept. 4 to discuss prices for each of the lots. Most of the lots are either 84-by-120 feet or 80-by-120 feet. The city owns the lots and will be selling them.

If the lots are priced similar to Cherry Lane, the smaller lots will be $35,000 and the larger lots $36,750 based on a cost of $3.65 per square foot.

One lot on the street, on the corner with Ash Street, is larger and would sell for $52,000 based on the pricing for lots on Cherry Lane. Already, numerous people have expressed interest in buying the lots.

Three lots remain to be sold on Cherry Lane – Lots 3, 5 and 7.

Utilities have already been installed under Ash Street leading to the northern development, a 77-unit housing project being proposed by Apex Construction and real estate agent Jeff Edberg. The details of that project are currently being debated by the City Council.
