The first sale of $3.5 million in general obligation (GO) bonds to purchase state-mandated new radio/communications equipment comes with a favorable overall 2.75 interest rate in the 10-year term.

The board Tuesday unanimously approved the sale handled by Northland Securities of Minneapolis.

Initial approval of the issue, with bonds sold as funds are needed, was approved by the board in March when it set maximum expenditure at $4.5 million. The second issuance is expected in early 2019 with total cost expected to be well under $10 million.

In other business, the board:

• Approved an amendment to the budget to reflect the bond sale in the current fiscal year.

• Approved, as result of the amendment, adjustments to county appropriations for fiscal 2019.

• Approved a special Class C liquor license for outdoor service and Sunday sales for Marilyn Farms in rural Kalona.

• Approved renewal of a Class C commercial liquor license with outdoor service and Sunday sales for the Washington Golf & Country Club.

• Approved changing Karen Witzenburg from full-time to casual part-time at the Washington County Jail.
