ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

With RAGBRAI set to come through the area on Friday, July 27, the city of Wellman has drafted a temporary ordinance governing the events of the day.

Riverside, too, has a proposed ordinance, which will be on the next council meeting agenda June 4.

City officials say that the ordinance is necessary because of the number of people that will be passing through the city and to regulate the vendors that day.

The proposed ordinance, suggested by statewide RAGBRAI organizers, requires all vendors to apply for and purchase a permit from the city.

Permit fees are $100 for local vendors and $250 for out-of-town vendors. Vendors needing electricity must pay an additional $25.

Vendors will also need to provide a proof of liability insurance in the amount of $500,000 with their applications.

The ordinance will also deem any sale of food, beverages or merchandise without a vendor permit a misdemeanor, with a maximum fine of $500.
