ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie boys golf team is starting to come into form and team No. 1 Noah Schlabaugh put together some impressive rounds in the last week of play.

The week started off with a season best 18-hole team score of 331 to finish in fifth place at the West Liberty Invitational. Noah Schlabaugh shot a 79 to place seventh individually at the tournament.

Collin Gingerich rounded out the top 10 by shooting an 81. The rest of Mid-Prairie’s team score included Monte Slabaugh at 84 and Michael Callahan at 87 strokes.

“After our first invitational we wanted to get three to fourscores below 90 and we accomplished that today,” Mid-Prairie coach Kelby Bender said.

Mid-Prairie then traveled to Tipton on Thursday and came up two strokes short of a dual win against the Tigers. Tipton won the dual 165-167. Schlabaugh was meet medalist with a one over par 37 strokes. The rest of the team score included scores of 43 from Callahan and Ryan Smit and a 44-stroke score from Gingerich.

The dual meet also featured a junior varsity battle that was Mid-Prairie’s first win of the year. The team was led by Chaz Patterson’s 46.

On Monday Mid-Prairie took on West Liberty and won 179-206 despite the gusty conditions.

“It was tricky playing in the wind today. The course was firm and fast and the wind would carry the ball,” Bender said.

Schlabaugh led the team with a 37 to win meet medalist. Callahan was the meet runner-up at 44 strokes. Slabaugh shot a 48 and Ryan Slaubaugh a 50 to finish up team scoring.

The win moves Mid-Prairie’s dual meet record to 3-2 on the season with one remaining against Durant next Monday. Mid-Prairie hosted their home invite on Tuesday at the Kalona Golf Club.
