ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

It was pouring down rain, with thunder and lightning all night and into the morning, but it stopped just before 8 a.m., and the Third Annual Stumptown Tractor Ride was on. One hundred fifteen vintage tractors, the oldest of which was a red 1930s era Farmall F-20, hit the road to Lone Tree. The ride swung around Pioneer Park and then headed south out of town on Wapsi.

The ride has been an annual event for the better part of two decades. It used to be called “The River Junction Ride,” but the name was changed three years ago when the Eastern Iowa SLEDHEADS – a group of snowmobile enthusiasts – took over the job of hosting the event. What hasn’t changed is the event itself.

It still begins with a Farmers Supper and entertainment the evening before. This year, the meal was provided by Jeff’s Market, West Liberty, the entertainment by Bandjoy, North English. And it’s still a daylong trip winding through the Iowa countryside. This year’s ride was 54 miles through Johnson, Louisa, Muscatine and Washington counties, and through the communities, starting from River Junction, to Lone Tree, Conesville, Columbus Junction, Haskins, then back to River Junction.
