For the sixth straight year the Mid-Prairie volleyball team took care of cross-county Washington High School, defeating the Demons in four sets.

Mid-Prairie (4-0) dropped the first set 25-15, but went on to win three straight 30-28, 25-14 and 25-23 over Washington (0-5).

“The team pulled together after the first game loss and made a commitment to play together with more desire,” Mid-Prairie coach Cindy Miller said. “They did just that, winning the next three games with strong serving and great hustle.”

The Golden Hawks were led in kills by Myah Lugar, who had 13 kills on 39 attack attempts. Lugar was a perfect 16-16 from the service line and had one ace on the night.

Cassidy Hershberger had three aces for the Golden Hawks on the night as the team collected seven.

Caitlyn Riggan finished the night with assists on 29 of 40 total kills, and Miller praised her choices on the night.

“Caitlyn Riggan, our setter, made some great choices running the court,” Miller said.

Miller said even though Lugar led in kills, the Golden Hawks spread their attempts around with Boyse, Hershberger and Makensie Rich also getting more than 25 attack attempts.

“This gives us plenty of options moving forward and makes us unpredictable for our opponents to defend,” she said.

The Golden Hawks now move into their River Valley Conference schedule with some touch matches ahead. They host Iowa City Regina on Sept. 6 in the conference opener and then travel to highly ranked Tipton on Sept. 11.
