The Mid-Prairie freshman and sophomore squad got their season out to a hot start with a 45-6 win over Grinnell.
The Golden Hawks took the game with a balanced offensive attack, scoring at least one touchdown in every quarter on the night. As a team they completed six of seven passes with Vinnie Bowlin going 5-6 for 56 yards and two touchdowns while Will Cavanagh was 1-1 for 11 yards.
Mid-Prairie rushed for five touchdowns with Kayden Reinier starting off the scoring with a 4-yard rush to put Mid-Prairie up 7-0. Bowlin took a carry 38 yards to the endzone in the third quarter. Tyler Helmuth scored on one of his two carries on the day, a nine-yard touchdown run. Cael Garvey had both of the fourth quarter touchdowns for Mid-Prairie, bruising through the goal-line defense of Grinnell.
Yardagewise, Reinier led the way with 75 yards on 10 carries, Keegan Gingerich added 57 yards on nine carries and Bowlin had 44 yards on two carries.
The Mid-Prairie defense held Grinnell to 187 total yards on the day, 3.5 yards per play. They were led by Justice Jones, who had six total tackles and a recovered fumble. Ethan Kos, Bowlin, Keegan Gingerich and Joe Allred had tackles for loss.
