ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Wellman Garden Club gathered at the Senior Center Oct. 19, for their annual “Fun with Fall Crafts” meeting. After a short business meeting, a dozen ladies responded to roll call, telling of interesting crafts given to them by others: a skeleton out of milk jugs and bottles, a spider hat, a turkey made with a pumpkin and feathers, a wooden turkey, a fall door hanger, bricks painted with winter scenes, a gingerbread boy, barn-wood snowmen, decorative wreaths, a pet rock guy, crafted Christmas ornaments, snowman droppings, and a Mr. and Mrs. Santa made from plastic bottles.

Each member who brought materials explained how to make their craft. Then they made lollypop ghosts, pumpkin placecards, wooden coasters, and wooden crosscuts with fall designs and decorations. After completing the projects, they enjoyed refreshments from the Tea Committee. All agreed that Florence Dobson’s pumpkin pie was so good that the recipe should be shared with The News readers:

Pumpkin Pie

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

1/2 tsp. allspice

3 eggs

1 Tbsp. flour

1 can evaporated milk

1 15-oz can Libby’s pumpkin (unseasoned)

Bake 10 minutes at 425 degrees then reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking 40 minutes, or until filling is set; (until knife inserted in center comes out clean).
