1933 - 2018

Clifford Leroy Horak, 85, of Riverside, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Fr. Charles Fladung officiating. Interment was held at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Cliff was born June 6, 1933, at his home in rural Riverside, the son of Louis and Velma (Jardon) Horak. He attended Jackson Center rural school and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Cliff was united in marriage to Mary Ann Janecek on Nov. 9, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside.

Cliff was born and lived on his family farm his entire life, which was named a Century Farm in 1997. He farmed the land with his son, James, for many years. Cliff belonged to Farm Bureau since the early 1950’s. His interests included Labrador retriever dogs, attending farm toy shows and auctions, studying family genealogy and histories of Washington, and collecting advertising pens and pencils. He enjoyed listening to gospel, country and polka music, and attended many dances while younger.

Survivors include his six children: Peg Rogers of Washington, Cheryl Horak of Cedar Rapids, Jon (Lindsey) Horak of Wellman, James (Tammi) Horak of Riverside, Sue (Brian) Donaldson of Wellman, and Jerry Horak of Riverside; nine grandchildren: T.J. Rogers of Tiffin, Cameron Rogers of Tiffin, Mikayla Rogers of Washington, Jesi and Jacob Donaldson of Wellman, Louis Horak of Riverside, Zachary Willman of Riverside, Andrew Horak and Anna Horak of Wellman; sister: Patricia (Dale) Bruegge of Washington; sisters-in-law: Barbara Thomann of Riverside and Alberta Thomann of Richland; brother-in-law: Joseph Janecek of Riverside; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife: Mary Ann in 2017.
