ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Lady Lions took New London to extras June 23, in a game in which Lone Tree had a run taken off the board by a controversial runner interference call. The run loomed large in a 4-2 loss in eight innings.

Lone Tree loaded the bases with one out in the first, but it was New London who managed to put the first run on the board. After an error in the outfield got the first batter of the inning on base, a double with two outs drove in the first run of the game.

Abby Buckman helped her own cause with a two-out single to tie things up in the bottom of the second.

Buckman then scored in the fourth after starting a two-out rally as Heather Geiger came through with an RBI single. Lone Tree then had a third run cross the plate, before it was wiped out by a runner’s interference call.

On a ball that deflected off the pitcher’s glove, the umpire judged that the second baseman was interfered with as she adjusted to the ball’s new trajectory by the runner passing in front of her.
