Around Wellman City Hall on the afternoon of Dec. 8, the city held an open house to celebrate the retirement of Utility Clerk Chris Huston.

Complete with a framed resolution proclaiming the day “Christine Huston Day,” the afternoon offered the city and its residents the opportunity to say thanks to Huston after nearly 18 years working for the city, complete with retirement cake and refreshments.

The resolution stated the sincere appreciation the city had for Huston’s work over the course of the previous 17-plus years saying she had “literally been the voice and the face of the City as the primary contact person call or enter City Hall.”

The resolution praised Huston for being a stalwart as the council and fellow employees changed around her.

Before signing and proclaiming the aforementioned day on the resolution, Mayor Ryan Miller had some personal thanks to pass along to Huston.

“On behalf of the entire city council, I want to express our appreciation to Chris for her loyalty to the City of Wellman and wish her all the happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter in her life,” Miller said.

Though Huston’s retirement officially doesn’t start until Jan. 2, her last day in the office will be Dec. 15. After that, she’ll be making use of some well-earned vacation time. Time off that Huston said she’s very much looking forward to.
