1930 - 2018

Charles J. Mullinnix, 87, of Lone Tree, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 21, 2018. Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Church in Lone Tree. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or First Responders of Lone Tree in memory of Charles.

Charles John Mullinnix was born on Aug. 8, 1930, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Floyd L. and Lenore M. (Cerny) Mullinnix. Charles was a graduate of Lone Tree High School. He entered the Army in 1951. He served in Korea as a sergeant from 1952 through 1953 as a tank machine gunner.

On Jan. 26, 1954, Charles was united in marriage to Wilma J. Cooney, at St. Mary’s Church in Riverside. Charles farmed in Johnson County. He did custom corn shelling and then worked for Oral B in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Lone Tree and Lone Tree American Legion Post 457.

Charles enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, helping at the farm, but most of all spending time with his family.

Charles will be deeply missed by his wife: Wilma; children: Gary (Terri) Mullinnix, Catherine (Allan) Sexton and Janice Mullinnix; grandchildren: Dawn Jarrard, Chad (Saralyn) Mullinnix, Corisa (Jamie) Sexton, Jason (Kimberly) Sexton, Tamra (Dan) Roberts, Tonya (Dave) Wageman, Renae (Joe) Williams, Katie Rincon; 13 great-grandchildren and two on the way; brothers: Don (Donna) Mullinnix of Riverside and Gene Mullinnix of Lone Tree; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Kevin Mullinnix; brother: Bill Mullinnix; and his in-laws: Thomas and Elma Cooney.
