ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

After looking good in a week zero 36-14 home win against North Mahaska two weeks ago, the Highland football team struggled against a more physical opponent in West Liberty the second time out.

The Highland offensive line found themselves outmatched in the trenches and the West Liberty offense moved the ball seemingly at will early en route to a 62-7 Comet victory in West Liberty.

The Highland offense struggled to even get a first down in the opening half of the ball game. With two quick three and outs and three West Liberty plays on offense, the Huskies found themselves in a 13-0 hole less than four minutes in.

Things did not improve for Highland offensively and paired with some special teams mishaps, the deficit grew to 35-0 minutes into the second quarter.

Coming out trailing 41-0, the Highland offense was finally able to get something going and Trey Lasek punched the ball in from one yard out one play after finding Mason McFarland for a 39-yard catch to cut the lead to 41-7.

Highland would continue to move the ball for the rest of the half, but wouldn’t be able to sustain enough of a drive to put points on the board.

West Liberty would add a touchdown in the third and two more in the fourth to complete the victory.
