Two Lone Tree wrestlers are moving on after placing in the top two at their weight during Saturday’s sectional tournament at Lisbon.

Bryce Thompson, 106 pounds, placed second by winning his first match over Lisbon’s Riley Dolan 7-2 and then falling in the final 6-1 to Tyler Siemen from West Branch.

Aaron Slaughter, 113 pounds, placed first at 113 pounds by pinning Gage McCoy in his only match of the day.

The two will now move on and wrestle for a chance to go to the state tournament at this week’s district tournament in Wilton.

Thompson’s first test at the district tournament will be Colton Meeker from Wapello. Meeker defeated Thompson 15-0 in the semi-finals of the the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament on Jan. 27.

He will then move on to face either Tyler Siemen or Kael Brisker. Thompson is 0-2 versus Siemen this year and has not wrestled Brisker yet.

Aaron Slaughter will be the favorite at 113-pounds and will have his first match against Colton Cruse. Slaughter has not yet wrestled Cruse. The other qualifiers are Gage McCoy, who Slaughter pinned in the only 113-pound match at their sectional, and Christophe Ewart, who Slaughter pinned in 3:32 at the WACO tournament on Jan. 13.

Five other Lone Tree wrestlers battled it out at the sectional tournament but will not move on. Ryan Kirkpatrick placed sixth at 120 pounds, Ty Griffen placed fifth at 132 pounds, Will Hotz placed third at 152 and did not wrestle back for second by rule, Tim Mills placed fourth at 182 pounds and Trey Shalla placed fourth at heavyweight.
