ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

People who collect Kalona-themed items will have a new item to add to their collections.

This year, the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce is adding commemorative mugs to the Christmas in Kalona celebration, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1.

The mugs, filled with coffee, cider or hot cocoa, will be available near the skating rink on Fifth Street, just south of B Avenue. Area groups will sing Christmas carols nearby.

Wooden Wheel Vineyards will offer mulled wine.

“That will be new and amazing for downtown,” said Chamber board member Katie Miller, who worked on the committee organizing the annual event.

Christmas In Kalona activities will include a holiday open house and homemade show at the Kalona Historical Village from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And the vendor market will return to the community center in a new location – on the indoor track on the second floor of the gym.

The community center will be the site for the new ugly sweater contest at 3 p.m. Awards will be given for the ugliest sweaters in three categories – men’s, women’s and youth.
