ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Lone Tree started with an early lead that was soon erased by a Louisa-Muscatine run that would help the Falcons to a win against the Lions.

Keegan Edwards started Lone Tree off with an early three from the corner, followed by a shot from the paint by Brock Smith. This 5-0 lead provoked a response from Louisa-Muscatine with a 17-0 run to bring the first quarter score to 17-5.

Louisa-Muscatine extended this run to 24-0, which finally ended with a two-pointer by Avery Knock. Lone Tree’s offense struggled with Louisa-Muscatine’s zone defense and many settled for outside jumpers that didn’t go in. This was not the case for the Falcon offense as they utilized their post players against the Lions’ man defense. The end of the second quarter recognized a 15-10 Louisa-Muscatine lead to end the first half 32-15.

Coming back from the locker room into the third quarter, the Lions couldn’t move past Louisa-Muscatine’s zone and turnovers piled up. Three minutes in and the Falcons went on a smaller run leading them to a 45-23 end going into the fourth.

The Lions came out of the third quarter and turned up the full-court defensive pressure and made a concerted effort to get the ball to Smith. Various post plays and free throws later the Lions had closed the gap for a five-point game.

Lone Tree’s effort to foul in order to extend the game resulted in an opportunity for Louisa-Muscatine, as they took a nine-point lead to end the game. The Lions lost against the Falcons 55-44.

Box Score
