ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Iowa Mennonite has raised $1,750 for their sister school in Puerto Rico, Academia Menonita Betania.

According to Candi Schmieder a request was sent out to all Mennonite Schools with the Mennonite Education Agency to see if they could help with the torn off rooftops, fallen trees and damage in the area.

The school set out to raise $1,000 and used two different fundraisers to reach their goal. The first was an offering collected during their home volleyball match against Louisa-Muscatine. The players took baskets around the crowd and both Iowa Mennonite and Louisa-Muscatine families contributed to the donation. $1,351.80 was raised that night.

The other fundraiser included a comfy clothing day where students are allowed to wear athletic shorts or sweatpants for a donation of $2 or more according to Schmieder. $398.20 was collected that day.

“The amount surpassed our goal of raising $1,000 for the school. Thank you to everyone in our community who joined in our efforts to help our sister school in Puerto Rico!,” Schmieder said.
