Mid-Prairie seniors Moriah Brase and Quinn Schmidt got a final crack at a cross country course this season at the senior All-Star race at DMACC this past weekend.
Schmidt was the No. 7 runner for the east side in the boys race and finished 18th overall with a time of 16:55, his first sub-17 minute 5K in a race this season. The eastern Iowa boys team fell to the western team 15-44. The Western team swept the first five spots in the boys race led by Missouri Valley’s Jordan Hustak in 16:07.
Moriah Brase finished 24th overall with a time of 20:11, putting her in the top half of finishers in the 60-participant race. The eastern Iowa team narrowly lost to the western Iowa team 27-29. Emma Lucas of Bedford was the individual winner in 17:59.
To be included in the senior All-Star race, athletes have to be high school seniors that have run below a 17:50 for boys or a 21:50 for girls this season. The meet uses Interstate 35 as a way to separate schools into the eastern Iowa and western Iowa teams.
