ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The meaning of Veterans Day took on a different meaning Friday, November 11, for a Highland High School graduate as she has returned home on leave just two days prior to the day to honor her as well as all other Veterans.

Alexis Rodgers, who graduated in the spring, says it’s definitely something new for her. “It’s a shock to get thanked so much because I honestly don’t think I’ve done anything besides go to training. Honestly, I’m thankful for all the brothers and sisters who have served before me and are serving next to me for everything they’ve put down in their lives and I’m excited to serve next to them.”

After attending the Veterans Day service in Riverside Friday, November 11, Rodgers said she will take away something from that. “It’s actually really special to know that there’s people who support you and are there every step of the way and they are really proud of what you are doing for them.”

Rodgers will eventually become part of the Military Police and will be stationed at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas. She chose that path for a certain reason. “I was wanting to join the Army, but I also wanted to be a civilian police officer, so I figured I would do the best of both worlds and be part of the police in the military. Through all of the training, I learned that is what I really wanted to do: to assist, protect and defend everyone.”

Even though she just returned from Boot Camp, Rodgers does intend to make a career out of being in the military. “I really enjoy it. I haven’t even started my actual job, but with the training and all the opportunities I will get is really beneficial.”

Thinking life post military isn’t something Rodgers has thought about a lot, but has discussed. “We were briefed on a border patrol and I think that’d be really fun because it will be right next to where I’m stationed now. But I’m also looking into the CIA or FBI. I think that would be fun. This would get you into the door for that.”
