ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

When Doug Green was diagnosed with cancer, Soldiers and Sisters for Christ immediately responded.

They raised money to help with medical bills and were there when he needed them. Their support, Green said, “means a lot to me.”

This past Saturday, Soldiers for Christ held an event for Doug Green and his family at the Lone Tree American Legion for an afternoon of food, raffle prizes and a silent auction.

Green is vice president of Soldiers for Christ M/M Chapter O. He is originally from Lone Tree and graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1988. He lives in Nichols and works for Precision Structures in Wellman.

Soldiers for Christ is one among a growing number of motorcycle ministries such as the Christian Motorcycle Association and Combat Veterans Association, nationwide.

They are recognized as charitable and religious organizations. The local group is classified as a 501(c)(3) religious charity.

The purpose for these clubs is to reach out to those who feel a need for connection with a religious community but who don’t feel they belong in a regular church.

The clubs are nondenominational and come under the broad heading of those who think of themselves as Matthew 25 Christians. They are accepting of all as Jesus accepted all. And they follow Christ’s commandment to help those in need through fundraising.
