ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie girls volleyball team picked up its first win over a conference opponent this season with a two set win over Northeast in the opening round of the RVC consolation tournament in Cascade on Thurday, Oct 13.

Jaedynn Evans returned to the lineup and had eight kills and 11 digs for the Golden Hawks in a 21-14, 21-8 win over the Rebels.

It was a rematch of a game that Mid-Prairie lost in two sets just 48 hours earlier.

“Everyone was fired up and ready to play,” Coach Cindy Miller said. “We really out-hustled Northeast and just plain wanted the win more.

“Northeast has a few very tall players and even when their block halted our attack, there was our defensive coverage present keeping those balls in play. Offensively, we did a good job attacking and placing the ball and using free balls as opportunities to win the rally not just stay in the rally.”

Ali Butters had five kills and a block. Maya Hall had four kills, and Clarice Murphy and Sami Miller combined for 17 assists. Evans, Murhpy and Anna Vilovchik combined for 33-35 serving with six aces.

“Middle blockers, Ali Butters and Shae Becker were getting touches on the balls to help the back row,” Miller said, “and the entire back court of Amanda Miller, Alison Yoder, Anna Vilovchik and setters, Clarice Murphy and Sami Miller did not permit that ball to hit the floor.”

West Liberty knocked Mid-Prairie out of the consolation bracket with a 22-20, 21-15 win.

Evans had nine kills and eight digs. Sami Miller had nine assists, eight digs and two aces. Shae Becker had four kills and a block.
